“As we observe the placement and texture of these planters, I kept in mind the porous textured base and setting. Noticing the trees and families that surround the space, I wanted to create designs that symbolize the harmony between humans and the natural world.” - Mark Saldana, artist

“As we all know Queens is a very diverse borough full of immigrant families and workers. Many left their countries, leaving behind traditional resourceful abilities like farming, sewing, pottery, and more. The importance of conserving traditional practices is sacred. I wanted to represent the colorful vibrant energy that many of our cultures hold.”

“Creating two designs, one that represents the connection of vegetation,  natural life, and humans making us all one. And the second represents the people, the talents and skills that they carry over into this new life. Surrounding them with their musical instruments, tools, and flowers which these represent the occupation of many immigrant workers in NYC.” - Mark Saldana, July 2022
